The Evolution of the Foxy Liberals

By: Nguyen

Recently, I was caught listening to Malcolm X’s speech about ‘Foxy White liberals’. Throughout history, politicians have used black communities as tools to garner votes. In the United States, literally one group of white politicians called the “Liberals/Democrats” have essentially used minorities to gain power or remain in power against another group of whites called the “Conservatives/Republicans”.

According to Malcolm X (1963):

“…The white liberal differs from the white conservative only in one way: the liberal is more deceitful than the conservative. The liberal is more hypocritical than the conservative. Both want power, but the white liberal is the one who has perfected the art of posing as the Negro’s friend and benefactor; and by winning the friendship, allegiance, and support of the Negro, the white liberal is able to use the Negro as a pawn or tool in this political “football game” that is constantly raging between the white liberals and white conservatives.

Politically the American Negro is nothing but a football and the white liberals control this mentally dead ball through tricks of tokenism: false promises of integration and civil rights. In this profitable game of deceiving and exploiting the political politician of the American Negro, those white liberals have the willing cooperation of the Negro civil rights leaders. These “leaders” sell out our people for just a few crumbs of token recognition and token gains. These “leaders” are satisfied with token victories and token progress because they themselves are nothing but token leaders.”

Liberalism is defined as a moral philosophy that stands for liberty (free will) and equality. Unfortunately, the word “Liberal/liberalism” has been tarnished by ‘white Liberals’. It is very similar to the word “feminism”, where feminism is meant to be a movement and ideology that advocates for equality and equity for everyone, especially women. Currently, we see the change in the definition of feminism among many feminist movements throughout the years that has, resultantly, created contradictory ideas within the community. Therefore, many people outside of these communities do not know which ‘arm’ to subscribe to and even opt to not believe the ideology in general. Hence, the term ‘feminazi’, ‘social justice warriors’, and the ‘alt-left’ were coined from the people in the right observing the hypocrisy of the “left”.

We see “leaders” that were once part of the minority group, are now under white liberal ideology, still advocating for so-called “equality and equity”, but in reality are just virtue-signalling or providing empty promises. Malcolm X referred to these POC leaders as “sell-outs”. Essentially, when certain progressive policies and law are brought forth, these “leaders” understand these policies do not benefit them in any way and may even remove their “power” and “privilege” (e.g., electoral reform, universal healthcare). As a result, they begin using disingenuous tactics to oppose policies that benefit people of colour, as well as poor and middle-class families. For example, Kamala Harris’s corruption scandal as a California Attorney General highlights this well. Fake “feminist” Hillary Clinton’s pied piper strategy to make Donald Trump popular in the 2016 primary election, and her disingenuous ad hominems against Bernie Sanders (e.g., Bernie “sexist” comment, and his “pipe dream” promises) is another good example.

Let’s take a look at one of her sexist comments in greater detail:

Democratic debate when Sanders said:

“all the shouting in the world” will not improve gun laws.

Hillary Clinton purposely takes it out of context and make it about herself:

“I’ve been told to stop shouting about guns,” Clinton said to cheers. “Actually I haven’t been shouting, but sometimes when a woman talks, some people think it’s shouting!”

White and Foxy Liberal Corruption

Politicians that are funded by corporations do not “fully” help average Canadian/American citizens especially poor and middle class. These politicians offer empty platitudes. From Barack Obama’s half-measure health policies such as Obamacare, Justin Trudeau’s climate change advocacy as an oil executive, to Hillary Clinton’s efforts at “empowering” women which include pro-war, pro-wall street and anti-single-payer system stances, all of these stances fail to acknowledge that women and children are perhaps the first to be impacted from the shortcomings of these policies.

White & Foxy liberals have evolved and expanded throughout the past decades. Their ideology is imprinted in many policies and laws today and branded themselves as “liberals” and/or “progressive”, but in reality is another conservative denomination/branch. For instance, Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act (AKA ObamaCare) is essentially an improvement of Republican Mitt Romney’s ideas about health care. These half-measure policies are just band-aids to cover up a broader systemic problem. As such, there is a reason why corporations spend millions of dollars on Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Corey Brooker, and other politicians to oppose universal health care, tuition-free public universities (and more!) during their presidential/political race. Barack Obama’s Democrats are essentially a rebranded “Republican”.

He once said:

“The truth of the matter is that my policies are so mainstream that if I had set the same policies that I had back in the 1980s, I would be considered a moderate Republican,” (Noticias Univision 23 in a White House interview)

Many “leaders” around the world (whether they are conservative or liberal) are under a white liberal ideology also known as “neoliberalism”. This economic philosophy was first to popularize by Margaret Thatcher in the UK, Ronald Reagan and Alan Greenspan in the United States, Bob Hawke and Paul Keating in Australia, Brian Mulroney and Stephen Harper in Canada.

What is Neoliberalism?

Neoliberalism defined as:

“Neoliberalism, ideology and policy model that emphasizes the value of free market competition…Although there is considerable debate as to the defining features of neoliberal thought and practice, it is most commonly associated with laissez-faire economics. In particular, neoliberalism is often characterized in terms of its belief in sustained economic growth as the means to achieve human progress, its confidence in free markets as the most-efficient allocation of resources, its emphasis on minimal state intervention in economic and social affairs, and its commitment to the freedom of trade and capital.” (Britannica, 2018)

Foxy Liberal Celebrities

Of course, while there are many people that are not as powerful as politicians, there are many that could leave a huge imprint on the community. These celebrities advocate “equality” yet their actions are contradictory. For instance, George Clooney’s fundraising for the rich, Lena Dunham’s abusing her sisterEllen Degeneres’ hypocrisyMeryl Streep supporting Roman Polanski, and etc. These white liberals’ actions give the Republican’s ammo to criticize/generalize the left as hypocrites and corrupted (even though Republicans are the same as Democrats); therefore, undermining “true” progressive movements and policies emerging and implemented by politicians such as Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Progressive policies such as living wage, the green new deal, single-payer healthcare, progressive gun regulation, electoral reform, and taking corporate money out of politics (Justice Democrats, 2018). In comparison to what other Democrats/Republicans are promising and implementing currently, these promises and policies will benefit EVERYONE, whether you are Caucasian, Asian, Black, Latino, Native American, and etc. in America.

Conclusion

We already know that Conservatives/Republicans are wolves to people of colour; however, we need to focus and really aware be of the Liberals/Democrats’ intention because they are wolves in sheepskin. However, I still like Malcolm X’s metaphor that white conservative are wolves and white liberals are foxes… because they are one and the same.
