A Wing-Nguyen Situation

Meryl Streep Sending the Wrong Message?

Social media platforms were trending about Meryl Streep Golden Globes 2017 acceptance speech. Meryl Streep was rewarded the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement award for many years in the entertainment business, films and art (Not Mixed Martial “Arts” 😉 ). During her speech, she talked about her political views on Donald Trump (without saying his
name … kudos!). In my opinion, celebrities can use their popularity for the greater good. Unfortunately, most of the times using celebrities could be horrible if they give the wrong message or represent the “wrong” candidate (Looking at you Katy Perry and George Clooney). As you know from my previous political intrigue blog post about President Obama’s legacy and the Democratic Party, I am not fond with establishment politics and corruption. In the 2016 Presidential Campaign, Donald Trump was portrayed as an “anti-establishment” candidate like Bernie Sanders, but for the Republican Party. As an academic individual, I researched about each candidate’s position and policies. As you know, Donald Trump is an antithesis of anti-establishment, we can see his Cabinet picks as proof!

Meryl Streep’s political speech was really sincere and heartfelt! Especially, about the media involvement in the US election. However, it is too vague and I feel it was the wrong message to convey to the audience. Yes, Donald Trump mocked a reporter … so what? The audience/voters already knew that! I want Meryl Streep to stick to the political issues and facts (e.g., government corruption in both parties, corporation – money in politics).

Here is a fact, Republican candidate can only win the presidency if there is a low voter turnout! Therefore, I want Meryl Streep to focus more and tailor her speech to the democratic, progressive and independent voters!! Since, they have the power to get Democratic party back to the Oval office.

I like her statement about:

“Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence.”

Yes, Donald Trump disrespected people (e.g., Mexican, women, etc). But, what about the DNC and the mainstream media disrespecting by calling Republican voters (and voters who had no choice and picked Donald Trump) “racist and bigots”. Not to mentioned the DNC and mainstream media (e.g., CNN, MSNBC) disrespecting progressive and independent voters (AKA Bernie Sander’s voters) during the Primary. If Meryl Streep calling out Donald Trump on what he has done, she needs to be partial by talking about the travesty that Democratic party has done as well. I believe the Democratic party and some of the people who vote for the establishment candidate did not learn from their mistakes (hopefully I am wrong). They blame on everyone, other than themselves.
All I am saying, Meryl Streep should focus on educating people about the importance in having a positive and deep debate/conversation about politics and how people from all walks of life should not tune-out other people’s point of view. One of the reasons why Donald Trump is elected because people do not listen to the silent majority!

Please feel free to comment as well as correct me if I am wrong about this issue.
