My 2017 Story

By Nguyen

Sadly, I am not goal-driven person that I shouldHTML5 Icon be, however, I want to write this blog to remind myself that anything is possible. No one has any right to tell me
that I can’t be an NBA player at 5″4 (joking xD).

My goals for 2017 are pretty simple and perhaps generic.

In terms of my academics, after the winter break is over on Jan 08, 2017, I can start reading more journal articles as well as learning ArcGIS (software) for my thesis project and hopefully I can finish my Masters by the end of the summer.HTML5 Icon

In terms of finances, after my Masters is completed, I hope I can find a flexible job (full-time) which I can live near my family and friends as well as a job that can help me pay off my student debt (thankfully I’m from Canada and the debt is probably 4 times lower than if I am a US student paying off my debt). My biggest financial goal is to find a job that makes me happy and help me provide for my family, especially my parents who sacrifice their life to travel to Canada as a refugee.

In terms of personal achievement, I hope I can improve my writing skills after completingHTML5 Icon my Masters. Throughout my first year masters, I was trying to learn the guitar with some success. Now, I want to learn to play the guitar along with my horrible singing voice xD. Lastly, at this moment, I am 145 lbs due to sedentary lifestyle AKA sitting in my office and typing my thesis manuscript. Therefore, I want to regain the shape I had in 2012-2013 (120 lbs) AKA “featherweight” or reduce fat and gain extra muscle mass (130-135 lbs).  Easier said than done. That is why my plan is to do “100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and run 10 km every single day!” (Joking), Probably, start off slow like 20 push-ups, 20 sit-ups and 6 different planking exercises every day.

You know, I never made “New Years resolutions” like many people do because life carries me away too often and I never want to commit to a list of items when my priorities are so susceptible change. Kudos to you for putting it out there for all of the public to hold you accountable, I look forward to your year end successes and interim milestones!
