Nguyen – This was the first poem I ever made which talks about a son reminiscing how his mother saved him …
I will like to tell you that I am fine.
Presently, I am with my wife drinking anniversary’s wine.
I remember that moment when you held me in your arms.
Thanks to you, I am able to protect my child from all harm.
I remember that day on the pier in ‘89, I was only nine.
I wish you could have seen my child & wife making pie, which it is simply divine.
At the pier, you were putting sunscreen on me because it was really sunny
There is no amount of money that will keep me away from my little Johnny.
I remember it was suddenly dark, thunder booming
I wish you could see my child’s blooming
The swirling wind blew very fast
I wish I could talk to you about my struggling past
The beautiful sky started blackening.
I wish I could prevent this from happening.
I remembered the colossal dark waves consumed me.
I was drowning in the sea
I lost hope and my eyes closed,
You reached for me, all composed.
You have this energy and calm courage,
Fighting through the debris and wreckage
Go against the monstrous waves
You’re a warrior like the native braves.
I felt your cold skin and heart rate rising,
— This was not surprising.
You used your body as a weapon, so forceful and confident.
Piercing through the waves, like Poseidon’s trident.
The prolong battle through an army of waves made you weary.
Nevertheless, you proceeded, making me teary.
With all your might, you pushed me to shore.
After all the wreckage, I thought I was done for.
When I reached the sandy beach and turned around
You were nowhere to be found.
I will never get a chance to let you know…
How much we truly love you! – From me, Johnny and my wife.
You are a warrior, strong and brave like Joan of Arc long ago
When I told Little Johnny, you are a warrior that saved my life.
His first thought was a warrior is a man with a shield and a knife.
I told him that warriors can be anyone with great mentality and heart.
Not just people that go to military academy and trained in martial art.
Anyone with fighting spirit and great intent is a warrior
Just like your aunt May, the lawyer
Will make bad guys tremble and eat dirt.
A warrior knows when to walk away,
in order to live to die another day.
A warrior uses both body and mind to accomplish their task.
Like your older sister Jenny, while wearing her fencing mask.
A great warrior guides and protects the people they love.
Like your grandmother that I speak of.
Your grandmother is a warrior that bestowed love and wisdom on everyone.
The gift of love and wisdom will help them in the long run.
Little Johnny now believes that you are a hero, which everyone should know.
He cried: “Grandma you’re great! – like Chuck Norris with his taekwondo!”
I laughed and cried with pride
Every time I took a family photo, I imagine you by my side.
